About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

Interactive Knowledge Quiz

Thanks to our SC businessman for sending this interactive knowledge quiz that will challenge your grasp of current events - there are no trick questions.

After completing the quiz you can compare your score with that of the general public & with responses across demographic groups.

Our SC businessman got 11 of 12 correct.  I will post the one he missed on RTE under comments.

Please let me know how you make out.

  1. SC businessman said he missed the one regarding female justices - he wrote "Forgot Elana Kagan as one of the 3 female justices."

  2. Dear RTE,

I answered all 12 questions correctly. It is interesting that the Kim Jung-un question was the question least answered correctly. It would be useful for Americans to know who is filled with hate for our country and is not very stable and has a nuclear weapon. Anyone who reads the Wall Street Journal would know these answers easily. I know that other papers can report the news, I just am plugging the WSJ because how much reading it has helped my understanding of the world and economics. And it also helps to have vigorous discussions around your own dinner table about the USA and world events.

  6. I got 12 out of 12 and have to say I wish I didn't know some of the things I know. For example, I would like to forget about the three leftist women on the Supreme Court and Elizabeth Warren who I am sure will run for President sometime in the near future.

  7. Hello Doug and Carol. Interesting quiz. I managed to get ALL CORECT although I had to guess on the number of supreme court judges that were female. You'd think I would have been up on that with their pictures in the papers so much lately. The other was Elizabeth Warren... Wasn't sure. Take care and we'll talk soon.
