About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

Misleading Attack Ads Against Tea Party Candidates

Thanks to our marvelous NJ District 11 FairTax supporting former primary candidate Richard Luzzi for passing along Dick Morris's (DM) recent column that highlights some of the Democrats latest lines of attack against their Republican & Tea Party opponents.  Below are two excerpts.

DM - "Imposing a 23% national sales tax.  Those Republicans who have endorsed the FairTax proposal pioneered by talk radio host Neal Boortz and the fiscally conservative Club for Growth have been hit with supporting a national sales tax of 23%.  But the Democratic ads always forget to mention that this tax has been proposed as a replacement for -- not an addition to -- the federal income tax.  The only people who are speculating that a VAT or national sales tax might be added on top of the income tax are in the Obama Administration.  Again, once Republicans point out the truth, the Democratic allegation backfires since voters rather like the prospect of a world without the IRS, tax audits, and revenue agents."

The above only partially takes care of FairTax distortions - there are many other points that can be made re how the FairTax energizes the overall economy which of course is exactly the opposite of what BO has in mind.

DM - "Shipping jobs overseas.  In the most convoluted of all negatives, Democrats are accusing their GOP challengers of supporting corporate loopholes which reward companies that open overseas offices with tax favors.  They derive this Republican position by construing the no-new-taxes pledge most Republican candidates have taken at the behest of Americans for Tax Reform, headed by Grover Norquist as meaning that no corporate loopholes will be closed.  Of course, once Republicans point out that the Obama Administration pushed the General Motors bailout even though two-thirds of the GM jobs were abroad, proposed cash-for-clunkers even though almost half the cars were foreign, and supported TARP bailouts for banks much of whose money went overseas, the accusations fall apart."

In line with DM's previous point Abraham Irwin writes - "The stimulus seeks to encourage the purchase of consumer goods, some substantial portion of which goes to support the economies of our foreign competitors.  'Cash for clunkers' increased the sales of imported cars.  Even the GM bailout supported Canadian car exports."

And Jesse Hobbs completes these thoughts - "(Interest) rates are kept low on the theory that if saving is unattractive, people will spend more.  That worked in the 1970s when it wasn't so easy to invest overseas, but now that great whooshing sound is money leaving the country to seek more attractive opportunities elsewhere.  The Fed is stimulating the economies of other countries more than ours."

America's problems start with an overall electorate not knowing or being incapable of discerning the truth.  At least after receiving & reading the messages on this blog over time you cannot say you don't know the issues.

So Be It

Well the Republican 43 page document entitled "Pledge To America" was finally released on Thursday. It was attacked as "too weak" or "out of touch" by groups on each side of the political spectrum respectively. Please decide for yourself if it is what you are looking for. The Democrats deciding to not vote on the impending across-the-board tax increases, that will automatically occur on New Year's Eve, until after the election in a lame duck session is not what we are looking for if we are interested in ending this miserable jobloss recovery as soon as possible - but of course BO & the Democrats not only could not care less about jobs they really prefer people being dependent on government with no wealth creating jobs whatsoever.

The Pledge was designed to appeal to the Tea Party movement & indeed some of the provisions accomplished this. The question is did it go far enough to convince voters that establishment Republicans (i.e.; non Tea Partiers) can be trusted after they started the entire spending snowball rolling under Bush. Principal author of the Pledge Californian Kevin McCarthy acknowledged that the Pledge was not intended to be all encompassing & is just a start so it may be too little too late.

After speaking @ several Tea Parties I have wondered who makes up the Tea Party - & in particular are they new people (voters) or just ones who are now more vociferous than ever before but bring no new voters to the booth in which case we are in the same electoral predicament as in 2008 - all things being equal. Only time will tell - November 2.

So we don't know how many Tea Partiers there are but Tom Morrison could not have explained more clearly what they are looking for - when he wrote before the Pledge was released that "Tea Partiers want a political party that is absolutely committed to limited government & a substantial rollback of federal spending & entitlements. If that's not politically feasible until the nation is closer to the brink of bankruptcy so be it. Our most recent generation of Republicans paved the way for the progressives to vastly expand the power of Washington under President Obama. There is absolutely no Tea Party appetite to repeat that mistake."

Pence & Huckabee Lead Early Straw Poll

Although admittedly early, last weekend Indiana Congressman Mike Pence won the "Values Voter" 2012 GOP presidential nomination straw poll conducted by the Family Research Council Action with 24% of the vote.  Governor Mike Huckabee finished second with 22%.

The exciting thing about this result is that both front runners heavily support the FairTax.  Governor Huckabee ran for president in 2008 & his only comment on his issues paper re taxes was the unambiguous four word statement - "I support the FairTax."

Congressman Pence was first elected to the House in 2000 & has been a co-sponsor of HR 25 for several years - he is graded "A" by the National Taxpayers Union.  Click here to hear Mr. Pence explain some of the liberty principles why he supports the FairTax.

Those of us who constantly, consistently, & most important accurately spread the FairTax word across America are doing the ground work so that when the right national figure comes along we will have a base of support in place.  Mike Huckabee finished in the final four in 2008 - just imagine the difference for our country in his pursuing the FairTax the past 20 months had he won the presidency compared to what has happened.

Couple Messrs. Pence or Huckabee in the presidency with the following victorious Senate Tea Party candidates who will caucus with Jim DeMint (SC) & Tom Coburn (OK) instead of the Republican Party establishment & you have reason to get excited again.

Rand Paul - KY
Joe Miller - AK
Ron Johnson - WI
Sharron Angle - NV
Mike Lee - UT
Marco Rubio - FL
Pat Toomey - PA
Ken Buck - CO
Christine O'Donnell - DE
Linda McMahon - CT
Carly Fiorina - CA

And please do not forget our two NJ FairTax congressional candidates - Anna Little & Mike Agosta.  Also Rob Woodall is running to replace the retiring John Linder & will become the FairTax lead sponsor if elected.

With all of the people mentioned above in office, America as we knew her when we were growing up, has a chance to return against all the odds one more time.

The Irrelevant Silent Majority

Thanks to a subscriber to ReturnToExcellence.net for sending this link of a video of Michael Berry, a former Houston City Council member and a staunch conservative who has built a radio career stirring up controversy.

The video is a good call to action that I combine with the message below giving a German view of Islam that was sent to us by another member of our group. The authorship of the piece below is in dispute but the piece's point that throughout history the groups known as the peaceful majority (the "silent majority" to us) have been cowed, & were extraneous & irrelevant until they totally succumbed is not.

One hundred seventy five years ago Alexis de Tocqueville gravely warned in "Democracy in America" that unless individual citizens were regularly & consistently involved in the action of governing themselves that self government would cease to exist. He wrote - "this rare & brief exercise (voting once every year) of their free choice, however, important it may be, will not prevent them from gradually losing the facilities of thinking, feeling, & acting for themselves, & thus gradually falling below the level of humanity."

---German View Of Islam---

A man whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many Germans were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. "Very few were true Nazis," he said, "but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us. We had lost control, and the end of our world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories."

We are told again and again by "experts and talking heads" that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.

The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, and honor-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the doctrine of stoning and hanging rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.

The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the "silent majority," is cowed and extraneous.

Communist Russia was comprised of people who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority was irrelevant.
China's huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
The average Japanese prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.
And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were peace loving?
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.
Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany , they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.
As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts -- the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Is Your Representative The Ultimate Telecommuter?

Directly below is a quote received from a member of our group re the true danger America is facing & really has faced for years - the Death Of Democracy.

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency.  It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense & good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper & far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.  Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince.  The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool.  It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

To help explain the above quotation Steve Reed recently wrote re the relationship of the NYC electorate & Congressman Charlie Rangel's corruption & tax cheating problems - "It is profoundly regrettable when voters look the other way, overlooking the actions of their representatives, provided only that 'they get theirs.'"  Rangel won his primary race yesterday with more than double the votes of his nearest challenger.  Rangel has been beset by calls for his resignation since a House committee filed 13 ethics charges against him this summer - but not a concern to his constituents who love him.

If you are interested I suggest that you check out the following for more insight into the above thoughts of where America is frightfully but definitely headed - just click on ReturnToExcellence.net : 1)  May 17, 2010 posting of "Jon Voight's Open letter To America", 2) August 10, 2010 posting of "Can We Turn Back After Crossing This Divide?", & of course 3) Death Of Democracy @ the top on the left hand side of the blog.

Turning now to my own quote regarding the above which builds on Mr. Reed's & graphically explains the first - I have said for quite some time "we have a portion of the electorate who is growing in size all too fast - who could not care less about what happens to America as long as they receive their government relief checks.  This portion of the electorate would not hesitate to vote for someone in jail who has raped their grandmother, been convicted of pornographic crimes, is an admitted crack cocaine dealer who dodged paying income taxes on millions of dollars of money derived from illegal activities, & was captured by our military as an enemy combatant fighting for al Qaeda against America - if that person could telecommute from his jail cell with phone, fax, & computer to approve the issuance of the relief checks needed by his hapless constituents who very soon will comprise the majority."

Responses - Activist Or Patriot?

Below are three representative responses to the subject message that add to the discussion.  The responses talk about soldiers keeping their shields shinny & ready for the attack, the importance of active patriots, & the danger of inactive patriots.

Edmund Burke summed up that last point - "the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

---Response #1---

Remember it was the Activist Patriots who risked all to build the Foundation of America and it can only be the Activist Patriots who can put America back on her solid and rightful foundation.

I think it does little good to be an Inactive Patriot!  I, for one, thank you for your willingness to sacrifice for our Country.

---Response #2---

With your new label and being out spoken should line you up for prime time TV for them to prove you are racist and a trouble maker for the BO administration, and not in line with the reeducation of America.  The news will be knocking on your door.

As a soldier keep your shield shinny and ready for the attack.  Good job Doug and Carol.

---Response #3---

What a surprise!  Doug, you and Carol ARE PATRIOTS!  America needs you!

Activist Or Patriot?

Since September 1 most of our messages focused on the Morristown Tea Party last Monday.

One of the papers covering the event was the Essex County Conservative Examiner whose coverage started off accurately stating "about a thousand people swarmed the Green, took advantage of various activities, bought reservations for the upcoming second annual 9/12 March on Washington, and listened to several speakers as they expounded on a variety of subjects."  So far so good.

The paper's report also mentioned the invocation of Reverend Andrew Paton & the featured presentation of Sherriff Richard Mack of Graham County, Arizona.

But just like O. Henry's "Man About Town" was astonished to learn who the real man about town was I was equally surprised to read "Activist Doug Hartlove was also on hand to promote his FairTax alternative to conventional income taxation.  He also took time to mention certain New Jersey Congressional candidates, among them Anna C. Little in the 6th District, who have consistently advocated for the FairTax program. This program would replace all current corporate and individual income taxes with a consumption tax (at a currently proposed rate of 23 percent) combined with calculated remissions to individuals and households of the amount of tax that would be assessed on poverty level expenditures."

Being an "activist ...on hand" never entered my mind just like it never did to every other Tea Partier I have ever met.  I thought I was working for America as a patriot - just like writing this blog.  Part of Sherriff Mack's presentation correctly pointed out that "America is on her death bed."  The degree to which people believe this determines the degree they are willing to actively fight it.

Tea Party Candidates & The FairTax Face The Same Distortion Problems

As you all know "FairTax The Truth: Answering The Critics" (the second book) was expressly written to answer the purposely misleading lies told about the FairTax. Of course these lies have persisted & in many cases have backfired against the people who told them - like several cases in Georgia where the people are so educated about the FairTax thanks to the Neal Boortz radio program that originates in Atlanta.

Tea Party candidates & Tea Parties themselves have experienced the same sort of distortions as the FairTax. An observant member of our group mockingly wrote - "I was shocked - no mention of The Morristown Tea Party in the Star Ledger. Maybe the media is afraid of this movement - according to various articles Tea Party candidates are growing in strength - and many of these "unknown" candidates running for office are winning in various polls." Now we can add that it is not just what you read but what is not printed also that is a distortion that you have to be aware of - or simply just cancel your subscription to the paper so you don't have to play this hide & go seek game that you are destined to lose.

With re to newspaper articles that were printed on the Morristown Tea Party some papers purposely underestimated the size of the crowd & I am so glad that none of you fell for that. We gave out more pocket cards than some papers reported as the attendance.

Tea Party candidates are experiencing the same sort of treatment such as when the detestable Harry "Ringside" Reid fills the Nevada airwaves with attack ads saying that his rival Tea Party Senate candidate Sharron Angle wants to cut Social Security benefits. Of course Ringside Reid is counting on kicking the can just far enough down the road that he will be out of office in retirement before the can goes over the cliff to everyone's financial peril except his own.

I hope the successful Tea Party candidates will join Jim DeMint (SC) & Tom Coburn (OK) in their own Senate caucus, separate & distinct from the Republican establishment, to start a third powerful party for America - Rand Paul - KY, Sharron Angle - NV, Ken Buck - CO, Mike Lee - UT, Christine O'Donnell - DE, Marco Rubio - FL, Linda McMahon - CT, Pat Toomey - PA, & the latest Joe Miller of AK. These are the type of people we need to attract other strong people of substance to a new caucus - not career pols like Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Rodney Frelinghuysen, or Leonard Lance.

Please watch this video of the great Herman Cain talk about the attack adds against the FairTax. Mr. Cain ends by asking "if they are misleading me about the FairTax what else are they misleading me about?" That was the very question Carol asked me when Rush Limbaugh purposely mislead his audience one day in February 2008 when Governor Huckabee was getting a little too close to the Republican nomination to suit the smart money - Rush said "what kind of fool would want to see prices go up by 30% under the FairTax?" And of course the only fools were those in his audience who believed any sane person would be for such a thing. Carol & I have never listened to Limbaugh again.

If Ever

The above photo was taken during my Morristown Tea Party speech on the FairTax on Labor Day.  Supporters lost track of the crowd size as over 1,000 & more than 400 pocket cards were given out.  I felt honored to be included on the speakers' list for such an inspiring & patriotic event.

My goal coming out of Candidates' Night on August 3 was to have every one who receives these messages or came to the Morristown Tea Party work just one afternoon between now & November 2 for one of the candidates who supported the FairTax & won their primary in NJ.  The two candidates who meet this qualification are Anna Little (District 6) & Mike Agosta (District 9).  Jim Gawron of District 11 also supports the FairTax & is on the ballot in November.

If the stakes in this upcoming November mid-term election are important to you I ask you to volunteer to work one afternoon between now & November 2 spreading the word of the support for the FairTax & America for one of the candidates I mentioned above.  Please let me know your availability so that I can gauge the response the candidates get from our group.  Just let me know if & when you can help - the candidates & their staffs will be working seven days a week - & I will put you in touch with the appropriate people within the campaign.

It does not matter that the candidates may not be in your district or state - you will get FairTax co-sponsorship with these people being elected to Congress.  I support FairTax candidates all over the country all year long because it will make the difference in ridding ourselves of statists in Congress who vote against our interests every chance they get.  The more statists we rid ourselves of the better.  I can't imagine a bigger positive impact you can have for your futures than helping spread the FairTax supporting word about Anna Little, Mike Agosta, & Jim Gawron.  Having a FairTax cosponsor from NJ & the northeast will be huge for America.

My Tea Party speech is posted on ReturnToExcellence.net under "The FairTax" on the left hand side of the blog.

I hope that everyone can help because we have worked a long time to get to this point & it may not come along easily again - if ever.

The Beauty Of Constitutional Freedoms

Below is a very thoughtful piece researched & written by a member of our group re the Ground Zero Mosque that comes to the conclusion that building this mosque is a very bad idea.

Now I am sure that we have all heard that Imam Faisal has every constitutional right to build this mosque @ 45 Park Place in lower Manhattan & that is indisputable - just as sure as everyone has the right to burn the American flag, everyone has the right to not stand with their hand over their heart facing the flag upon the playing of the Star Spangled Banner, & anyone has the right to build this mosque on the graveyard of Americans who did not do one thing wrong on 9/11 except go to work. The beauty of all of these constitutional freedoms is that exercising them identifies the perpetrators as enemies of America to the rest of us.

---Cordoba House Analysis---

The "Cordoba Initiative" would erect a $100 million mosque and Islamic Center near Ground Zero, where nearly 3,000 Americans were killed on 9/11. Faisal Abdul Rauf, the project's face, says it's about interfaith tolerance. Cordoba, though, was the Caliphate that marked its 711 A.D. conquest of Spain by converting an ancient church into a huge mosque complex. Rauf, who urges America to be more Sharia compliant, wrote a 2004 book entitled "What's Right with Islam Is What's Right With America" - except overseas, where it was provocatively titled "A Call To Prayer From The World Trade Center Rubble: Islamic Dawa In The Heart Of America Post 9/11."

Sometimes called "stealth Jihad", Dawa is the aggressive promotion of Islam by which influential Islamists promise to "conquer" America. Rauf's book was reissued by two American arms of the Muslim Brotherhood: the Islamic Society of North America and the International Institute of Islamic Thought. Note that the Brotherhood was at the center of our government's recent prosecution of a charitable front, the Holy Land Foundation, for sending millions of dollars to Hamas. It identified ISNA (which housed and directly funded Holy Land) and IIIT as participants in its "grand Jihad" aimed at "destroying the Western Civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house"..

The Ground Zero mosque is a very bad idea.

FairTax & The Morristown Tea Party - Labor Day September 6

Below is the program for the subject Tea Party to be held on Labor Day, Monday September 6 between 11 AM & 1 PM in the center of Morristown, NJ.  As you see I am listed to speak on the FairTax starting @ 11:50 AM - prime time.

This event has historically drawn thousands of attendees each time it was held so this is a tremendous chance to move the FairTax  forward & also to acknowledge the three candidates who are running for Congress in NJ in November who are supporting the FairTax to the point that they will each become co-sponsors of HR 25 - The FairTax Act of 2009 if elected.

Please let me know if you will attend & can work with our leaders to pass out FairTax information & get contact information from any one in attendance who wants to volunteer.

Anyone who has received this invitation from out of state please let me know & I will help you secure lodging the night before including staying in my house if room allows.
