About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

The Passing Of Professor Williams

It was with extreme sorrow that I learned of the sudden death of Professor Williams last week - one of my life long mentors.

Professor Williams influenced generations of students starting in the 1970s @ Temple University all the way through his forty years of academic excellence @ George Mason University, including being head of the economics department.  He died shortly after his last class of the current semester.

My fondest personal experience with Professor Williams was when I had a question about something I had heard him say & called his office @ George Mason to talk to him about it - & left a voicemail message detailing my question.  Well, the professor had no idea who I was other than I was someone (i.e., a student) with a question who took the time to call him.  The next morning Professor Williams returned the call to my home & asked to speak to me.  I took notes & have presented what he told me countless times on RTE.

Thanks to Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) for sending me this video of Professor Williams' seminar entitled The Role Of Government In A Free Society & to Hillsdale College for the professor's Imprimas essay entitled Future Prospects For Economic Liberty.

Long time readers of RTE, who are students of economics, libertarianism, individualism, & free market value, know that the principles presented on this blog follow the teachings of Professor Williams, Ayn Rand, Frederic Bastiat, Susan Lee, Professor Friedman, & Thomas Sowell.

My condolences.
