About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

BO's Latest Revealing Moment

In the most revealing moment since BO talked to Joe the Plumber in 2008 about spreading the wealth around BO let us know again exactly what he believes when he went off teleprompter in a campaign event in Roanoke last Friday.  In brief,  BO's remarks that someone else (government) is responsible for any success individuals obtain goes against everything America was founded upon.  BO belittles individual achievement to the point he makes it sound like it is nonexistent.

Now when I heard BO's remarks I knew it sounded familiar.  Elizabeth Warren, 2012 senate candidate in Massachusetts running against Scott Brown, was the originator last September of this communist theory.

The remarks from the above two videos provide a clear statement as to what Democrats in office believe & are working toward.  The question is did the majorities that voted for them not know of this communist bent or is this what they really want also.  Look @ the faces of the people in the audience of the Warren presentation – they sure seemed to like what they heard.

Of all of the comments I received since the airing of BO's message my favorite is "And who helped you, Mr. President, on your way besides Saul Alinsky and Bill Ayers?"

There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there - good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory... Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea - God Bless! Keep a Big Hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me—because they want to give something back. They know they didn't—look, if you've been successful, you didn't get there on your own. You didn't get there on your own. I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something—there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business—you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.  The point is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together.

I sent this on to one of my leftist buddies that I argue with on a fairly regular basis. Here is what I wrote to him:

Andy - Makes you want to give all of your money to a homeless guy behind the Piggly Wiggly and say 'Thanks!' doesn't it? But, wait a sec. Who paid for this stuff in the first place? Oh, yeah, the achievers.

According to the government http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.a.htm, there is a 243 million non-institutional civilian labor force base. 153 million (63.8%) hold jobs. Of those, 48%+ pay no federal income taxes. That leaves less than 80 million schmucks like you and me to foot the bill.

I say we should thank the other achievers out there for the opportunity!

As you have pointed out a few times recently, there is tremendous ammunition out there for Republicans to use against BO. The latest against individual success is a gift. Will Mitt take advantage of this with a commercial depicting BO as a Marxist? Use the damn picture of BO teaching how to attack the capitalist system at the U of Chicago (IBD has this picture). Then use his latest quote. This can be more damaging to a candidate than Bush the elder's Willie Horton commercial that sunk Michael Dukakis.

Democrats lie in commercials against Republicans. Ex: Paul Ryan look-a-like pushing Granny off cliff. Why then do Republicans fear bringing up controversial but true facts against Democrats? Because of the elite media which the public now holds in increasing contempt? What wimps! Our President is a Marxist. State the damn truth or loose the election.
