About Me

In writing the "About Me" portion of this blog I thought about the purpose of the blog - namely, preventing the growth of Socialism & stopping the Death Of Democracy in the American Republic & returning her to the "liberty to abundance" stage of our history. One word descriptions of people's philosophies or purposes are quite often inadequate. I feel that I am "liberal" meaning that I am broad minded, independent, generous, hospitable, & magnanimous. Under these terms "liberal" is a perfectly good word that has been corrupted over the years to mean the person is a left-winger or as Mark Levin more accurately wrote in his book "Liberty & Tyranny" a "statist" - someone looking for government or state control of society. I am certainly not that & have dedicated the blog to fighting this. I believe that I find what I am when I consider whether or not I am a "conservative" & specifically when I ask what is it that I am trying to conserve? It is the libertarian principles that America was founded upon & originally followed. That is the Return To Excellence that this blog is named for & is all about.

You No Longer Have To Feel Out Of Place In Your Own Country

During BO's two terms as president, Democrats lost the 60-vote supermajority filibuster proof senate, as well as control of the House, Senate, & presidency, plus over nine hundred seats in state governments & twelve governorships.  Trump will reverse everything that BO has done or tried to do to America.  That is BO's legacy.

Before the evening of November 8 far too many Americans had been feeling out of place in their own country.
What with: 1) the government worried about transgender bathrooms but not sanctuary cities, 2) thugs being honored as heroes while policemen who bring them to justice are vilified, 3) federal government dependence spending being higher than national disposable income, 4) the country's twice elected president not being able to say the words or name – radical Islamic terrorism - but was able to play golf within minutes after perfunctorily denouncing the beheading of American journalist James Foley by Islamic fascists;
What with: 5) colleges, like the University of NC @ Chapel Hill, offering courses on the "Literature of 9/11" that explore the September 11, 2001 Islamic terrorist attacks from the perspective of presenting Islamic fascists in a sympathetic light that focuses on justifying the actions of the terrorists as good people just trying to do what they deem right (none of the readings assigned in the freshman course present the September 11 attacks from the perspective of those who died or from American families who lost loved ones), 6) illegal immigrants committing murder after being deported six times but still gain sanctuary in major cities from federal law enforcement officers, 7) bakers, florists, pizza store owners, & photographers being forced to prove they are "religious enough" to avoid discrimination lawsuits after not participating in homosexual marriage ceremonies – in most of these court cases the bakers, florists, pizza store owners, & photographers lost despite their First Amendments rights of Freedom of Religion & Freedom of Association - just when did the freedom to follow one's religious beliefs in daily life become redefined as discrimination;
What with: 8) small & medium-sized businesses dying faster than they're being born – source Gallup, 9) the Democrat party seeing no problem for Hillary Clinton or BO with the four Americans murdered in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 but they do want to investigate the claim that Russia aided Trump's electoral win (this is especially ludicrous after Hillary received more popular votes than Trump), 10) the citizenry - far too many - especially the young, throwing away their heritage of liberty as they become enemies of capitalism in favor of a government-dependent socialist life after graduating from college with tens of thousands of dollars of student loan debt & no viable or visible gainful employment, 11) people wondering if it is worth it to work, or even to look for work, (there are 102 million Americans working full time year round & 108 million Americans receiving some portion of the 126 welfare programs identified by the Cato Institute – source Dick Morris Power Grab, Page 48);
What with: 12) over 9 million people dropping out of the labor force since BO took office & over 5.6 million more people working part time when they want, but cannot find, full time employment, 13) the government ordering you to buy healthcare insurance & fining (taxing) you if you don't & the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court going along with it twice, 14) seeing your life's savings growth halted by the Fed's zero interest rate policies while government borrowing as evidenced by the national debt hits record after record, 15) your president exchanging five top terrorist generals for a private who was a known deserter & then honoring the deserter's parents @ the White House, 16) coal miners losing their jobs by BO's & the EPA's conscious calculated plan to destroy the coal portion of the power plant industry because of BO's supposed belief in global warming;
What with: 17) the war @ the end of every year against Christmas & Christians who celebrate Christmas but never a mention of other religions all year long except for a show of understanding for Islam & Muslims even as murderous Islamic terror attacks are carried out around the world, 18) you can call a bank, Social Security office, or insurance company & the call is recorded but when Hillary Clinton is investigated by the FBI it is not recorded, 19) you need to show ID for virtually everything except to vote – a sign favoring the weak over the strong, 20) the IRS targeting Tea Party & conservative groups to unreasonably withhold tax exempt status of these organizations for years, 21) learning that the repressive Cuban regime made some 8,000 political arrests in the second half of 2015 after diplomatic relations with Cuba was restored by BO on July 20, 2015 - normalizing relations with Cuba will do nothing but aid Raul Castro who will wind up with any tourist or trade money as the general Cuban population remains tyrannized;
What with: 22) the Iran nuclear deal including the delivery of pallets of cash in Swiss francs to Iran under the cover of darkness – this alone tells you something is rotten here, & 23) BO's trying to close the Guantanamo, Cuba prison & return the terrorist prisoners being held safely there to the battlefield or worse yet to America.
Full disclosure - the above what with list was made off the top of my head over a month ago.  I held this post until January 20, until right after 12 noon, because I knew BO's fundamental transformation of America, for the worst, would not be done until the very minute he left office.  Please feel free to add to the list any items that have surfaced in the past month where BO has deliberately undermined the American heritage of freedom & liberty.
In fact to prove the point, name one thing BO could have done, if he wanted to harm America, that is not on the list.  A point Newt Gingrich has made also.
With such a list like the one above revealing BO's intentional destructive plan of ruin for America it is not surprising that almost half the electorate thought America's best days are in the past – source Rasmussen.  In addition, according to the July edition of the Journal For Democracy one in four Americans do not support democracy & an even larger number prefer an authoritarian figure so we don't have to deal with the nuisance of elections – a quarter of millennials hold favorable views of Lenin, 18% think favorably of Mao, & more than 10% have positive feelings about Stalin – three men who murdered tens of millions & impoverished hundreds of millions – source: Victims Of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC).
VOC also found in their Annual Report on the U.S. Attitudes towards Socialism, released on October 17, 2016, that Bernie Sanders' philosophy had more support than Professor Friedman's, only 37% of millennials & 38% of Generation Z (16 to 20) had a very unfavorable view of communism, & that 53% of millennials believe America's economic system works against them.  Click here to read the aforementioned report that gives all the statistics & information that shows where the country was heading if Bernie or Hillary had been elected.
During the presidential primary campaign a WSJ/NBC News poll found that 71% of Republicans felt uneasy & out of place in their own country – even 12% of Democrats felt that way very strongly.  This set the stage for a Trump electoral victory.
In winning the presidency Trump already has reached some of Romney's 47% – "people (who) will vote for BO (in Mitt's case) no matter what . . . these people are dependent on government, believe they are victims entitled to government handouts, & pay no income tax."  In brief, Mitt accurately described people prone to vote for government-dependence candidates like Hillary Clinton – until Trump gave some of them immediate hope for a better way.
To be successful in turning America away from the socialist instincts that started to enter Americans' lives right after World War II Trump will have to reach even more of Romney's 47% because the American youth is enamored with socialism - the Pew Research Center found in 2011 that 49% of people aged 18 to 29 viewed socialism favorably while 46% viewed capitalism favorably – & this trend has only grown worse as evidenced by Bernie Sanders popularity during the primaries & Gallup's confirmation both last May that 55% of 18 to 29 year-olds have a positive image of socialism & June, 2015 that almost 70% of millennials would be willing to vote for a socialist presidential candidate.  In fact these polls were proven true in that Bernie received more primary votes from under-30 voters than Trump & Hillary combined.
The WSJ reports that nearly one fifth of males between the ages of 21 & 30 (18.5%) who haven't completed college aren't working today & aren't in school.  This is up from 15% in 2000 & from 17% when BO took office.  Yet many of these young men are satisfied (short sighted) with their situation because it frees up time to play videogames -  WSJ source - the University of Chicago's Erik Hurst & colleagues.
Now there is plenty of evidence that millenials do not know what socialism is or what its inherent miseries are – many think the term refers to social media.  But we can also certainly say that millenials do not know what capitalism is either, since they have never lived in a capitalistic economy – America is a mixed economy that is over 50% socialist that millenials know, have lived in all their lives, & were told was capitalism.  When they finally see first hand the prosperity that capitalism brings to their lives through the dignity of holding a job, as promised by Trump during the campaign, & creating their own wealth for themselves, the hold that statist Democrats have on them will be loosened & Romney's 47% (& the 53% of millennials mentioned above who believe America's economic system works against them) will be further reduced - that is what some of Romney's 47% envisioned when they voted for Trump.
During the last 35 years two billion people have moved out of poverty because of capitalism – source James Pethokoukis of AEI.
Trump, as the polar opposite of Hillary & BO, gives millenials a chance to move away from the stagnate deception of their insincere collectivist upbringing where they were never taught the havoc that a mixed economy with ever increasing statism would bring.
But with the election of Trump a few of Romney's 47% have started to figure out that government-dependent welfare is a life long poverty trap that far too many people have spent their whole lives in – the ones who voted for Trump want & see something better.  They have the idea that the struggle for prosperity comes down to do you want more government or less?  They want to reverse the trend where people have become more interested in getting government benefits than earning a paycheck.
Where Hillary voters saw more mediocrity in her than greatness, & were satisfied with that, the people who turned the election for Trump @ the margin saw the opportunity & took the chance on a leader who would put America first, who would make America great again, & who would work to return prosperity to America.
It has been twenty-eight years since America has had such a President – one who didn't make you feel out of place in your own country.

  1. Saving all these significant details. Here is 1 more - $9,334,590,089,060.56 that the debt had increased under Obama as of the close of business on Wednesday is far more debt than was accumulated by any previous president. It equals nearly twice as much as the $4,889,100,310,609.44 in additional debt that piled up during the eight years George W. Bush served as president

  2. Thank you for your post which hit home so many times, expressing what we have felt for years, and I know I never could have expressed such deeply provocative information so clearly. I kind of feel sorry for the people who honestly feel that the past eight years have not been hurtful for our country. They must live in a bubble, created partially by the media which is still doing their part to instigate bad feelings about Trump. Listening to his speech, Donald was Donald, saying what he felt, not caring about the people sitting behind him, listening. Obama kept a cool demeanor, but Michelle looked like she was going to split a gut, biting her lip. Waiting to read how the media plays up the Obama women's iconic sense of fashion and beauty, and ignores the most glamorous first lady ever in the U.S. Tonight has to be fun to watch. Thank you for including us with your faithful followers!!

  3. Doug,

    I liked Trump's address. He took it to the entire establishment sitting around & behind him.

  4. Interesting article.

  5. There has never been a president like DJT! Amen!

  6. Dear RTE,

    It just baffles me to read these 23 points and wonder how people who support BO and Mrs. Clinton can be in such denial about the actual conditions in the USA. Mostly I just don't get how they can dismiss the weak economy and the lack of jobs and opportunities that have not been addressed at all during these 8 years. That's why when Trump said "what do you have to lose" is so meaningful. And perhaps some of those 47% thought just that. I never could understand how regular people like me, living in a regular neighborhood, paying my taxes, going to work, could be called every kind of racist and not be incensed to be categorized that way. Well I wasn't alone; the Trump voters were incensed by that. I just believe in Free Market Capitalism (and yes, Americans do not know the real deal), Personal Responsibility, and the Rule of Law. What is so wrong and distasteful about these three principles? Or what is distasteful about America First?

  7. Dear RTE,
    One more thought. Sixty-eight members of Congress chose to not attend the peaceful transfer of power. This harms our democracy, it is a crack in our democracy, and it was condoned by BO's silence who knew of their intentions before leaving office.

  8. Hi Doug,

    Just wanted to thank you personally for that posting you did yesterday.

    I also went onto RTE recently and you have so much to study on the site. It's almost a semester of reading to do it all! It's really wonderful.

    I miss our phone chats but still read the posts and RTE!! I hope that you and Carol are doing well.

  9. Well said Doug....Trump is already at work, doing what he promised.
